Rust is a common problem on most flooring including tile and carpets. When rust forms on tile or carpets you may feel like the stain is there to stay. However, you can remove rust stains from both carpets and tile with the right steps. DM Carpet Cleaning will share how to remove rust stain from both tile and carpets.
How Do You Remove Rust Stains from Floor Tiles?
There are a number of different ways for rust to develop on your tile. When rust stains appear on your tile you can remove it both easily and quickly. When you need to remove a rust stain from the tile you will need WD-40. Simply spray the WD-40 on the tile and leave it to soak on the rust stain for about 30 minutes. Then wipe it away with a cloth. If that did not remove the rust, then spray the WD-40 on the stain again. Using a toothbrush or sponge, gently rub at the stain. Make sure to rinse afterward with water to remove the access WD-40. Once the site has been cleaned you now have stain free tile. To prevent rust stains in the future avoid leaving metal on the tile. If you have metal items making contact with your tile, use a mat to act as a barrier between the metal and the tile.
What Removes Rust Stains on Carpet?
When rust gets on the carpet, it is a little bit harder to remove then it was on the tile. When you discover there is a rust stain on your carpet you will want to start by getting a butter knife. If there are hardened rust particles on the carpet you will want to scrape it off with a butter knife. Once you remove most of the chunky parts, create a cleaning solution. To remove rust stains from carpet you only need soapy water and a sponge. Dip the sponge in the soapy water and apply the solution over the rust stain. Let the soapy water soak over the rust stain for 5 to 10 minutes. Then begin by blotting at the stain with water. If the rust stain didn’t wash out with the soapy water, then try ammonia. Mix 2 cups of water with 1 tablespoon of ammonia, then pour the solution over the stain. Let the ammonia soak on the rust for 5 minutes. Blot at the rust stain again and make sure to use plain water to rinse out the ammonia on the carpet. When rinsing carpet you will want to pour small amounts of cold water over the site. Then using a dry white cloth, press down over the water. The cloth should soak up much of the water. Repeat pouring water and pressing with a dry cloth or towel a few times to ensure the carpet is rinsed completely out. To help the site dry faster you can place a fan over the area to help speed up the drying process. Once the carpet is dry, vacuum the carpet to help restore the carpet’s texture.
