If you are trying to keep your carpets clean you need to be prepared to clean up all sorts of spills and stains. You also know that regular cleaning such as vacuuming is a great way to keep the floors looking good and dirt cleaned off the carpet. When you have a high traffic area it can get dirtier than the rest of the carpet and will require more care than areas that are not walked on as often. One of the hardest items to try and clean off your carpet is adhesive, gum and sticky candy. They tend to come in on the bottom of a shoe and the pressure will grind the sticky substance into the carpet fibers. It can also be a child that has wondered away from the kitchen with a treat and drops one on the ground. Whatever the reason is that it is there, it needs to be removed.
D&M Carpet Cleaning has some methods that can help to remove gum and sticky candy from your carpets.
How to Remove Gum from Carpet with Peanut Butter
If you have ever woken up and realized that you fell asleep with gum in your mouth and then it wasn’t there you have probably used this method. You start to do your hair and find that gum that was missing! The bottle of peanut butter is at the ready and with a scoop and some patience you can get the gum from your hair. The same goes for your carpets and rugs. If you find a sticky candy or gum on your carpet you can use a scoop of peanut butter and rub it into the carpet which will start to break down the gum and allow you to be able to pick it off. You can also substitute the peanut butter with olive oil. Either one you use will need to be followed up with a carpet cleaning to get the oily substance out as well.
Remove Old Gum from Carpet with Ice
If you want to get a sticky mess off of your carpet you can use a bag of ice. Get to the ice box and use a handful of ice in a bag that zips closed. Be sure that the bag is sealed and lay it over the top of the sticky spot. This will allow the substance to freeze and become hard. Once the substance is hard you can break it off and remove the pieces with an object like a butter knife.
