Area Rug Cleaning Basics in Lawrenceville, GA; Vacuum, Use Pet Hair Remover Brush, Rotate Rugs & More

To add a special touch and room’s style, area rugs have unique patterns, color, and texture in their designs. The care requires special maintenance as rugs differ from carpet though they are fairly similar in some ways. Below is a list some of the universal basic maintenance and spot removal tactics that we at D&M Carpet Cleaning would like to share today.

Daily Area Rug Cleaning

The area rug can be well-kept with listed tips and steps for standard care, no matter the material or size.
Frequently vacuum area rugs. Contrary to popular belief, the fibers of the rugs wear down faster with dirt and debris than with daily vacuuming. To help extend the life of your rugs, vacuuming on a regular basis can reduce the wear. With the setting turned down and without vacuuming the fringe or shag rugs, vacuum the rugs well. Vacuum the rug daily, or as often frequently as possible.
Use Pet Hair Remover Brush on Area Rug. Removing the majority of the hair is better on the vacuum since most vacuums are not efficient enough to remove the pet hair from the area rug. With a stiff brush once a week, gently remove pet hair.
Rotate Area Rugs. Periodically in the year, rotate the area rugs. As you evenly distribute the normal wear and avoid over extended sun exposure, rotate the area rug every few months to avoid concentrating the wear from foot traffic and sun fading.
Area Rug Beater. At least once every week or two, the more often the better, take the rugs outside and shake them vigorously. To better loosen and remove most of the dust, dirt, and debris, paddle the rugs with a blunt object, such as a tennis racket. Immediately with a more effective vacuuming.
Deep Area Rug Cleaning: By looking for the label on the back of the rug, see if there are any special care instructions or warning first off. Only in some instances, there are area rugs that require dry-cleaning or spot cleaning.
Machine Washable Small Area Rugs. Place the small machine-washable rugs in a mesh bag and wash them on the delicate cycle. Do not use warm water, nor put them in the dryer as it can cause the rugs to shrink and set in potential stains unless otherwise instructed from the label’s directions. Hang the rug outside or in a well-ventilated area once the rugs are washed in cool water.
Area Rug Spot Removal: Never rub or scrub as it only forces the substance deeper into the fibers when treating spills. Be sure to use blotting techniques to gently absorb the moisture instead. Use your preferred option of homemade solution or a store-bought stain remover to treat the residual stains. As a multi-stain remover mix together teaspoon dishwashing detergent, 4 cups of warm water, and ¼ teaspoon white vinegar in a spray bottle.
